Brigg Annuak Town Meeting March 21st 2005 Minutes

Brigg Town Council Information

The Parish of Brigg is served by its own Town Council, which was established during the 1974 re-organisation of Local Government.

The Town Council consists of 19 members, and elections are held in May once every four years to coincide with the District Council elections for North Lincolnshire Council. Brigg Town Councillors serve in an entirely voluntary capacity and, although mileage allowances can be claimed by members who represent the Town Council out of the Town, no other allowances are paid other than the Town Mayor’s Allowance.

The Chairman of the Town Council is also the Town Mayor, and he/she is elected by members of the Town Council at the Council Annual Meeting held each year in May. The current Town Mayor is Councillor Mike Campion. The Deputy Mayor / Town Mayor Elect is Councillor John Kitwood.

Public Question Time

Members of the public are welcome to attend these meetings, that have a provision at the beginning of each session for the public to ask questions. Questions should be notified to the Clerk by 12 noon on the Thursday prior to the meeting.

The Town Council is extremely active in response to all issues relating to Brigg, and its future as a thriving town and community. Meetings are usually held on the fourth Monday of every month, at 7pm in the ballroom of the Angel Suite. The Agenda of Business to be Transacted is posted during the week prior to each meeting on the Town Council Notice board, which is  located at the rear of The Angel Suite.

The Town Council Office is in the basement of the Angel Suite, and is open to the Public on Monday and Thursday morning between 9.30am-12 noon (access via the Angel Courtyard). Telephone Number 01652 659402. The Town Clerk and members of the Town Council are always willing to assist parishioners, if it is within the power of the Town Council to do so. If for any reason they cannot help, they will often be able to direct you toward the relevant organisation that can. Please do not hesitate to make use of your elected representatives.

The Annual Town Meeting for Parishioners is held between 1st March - 1st June. This meeting is chaired by the Town Mayor, and provides the opportunity for parishioners to raise issues, and gain clarification on matters relating to the Town.

In addition to the business addressed at the monthly Full Council Meetings, the Town Council has several Committees which are responsible for the various functions of the Council. The Town Council Committees, and election of members who will represent the Town Council on Outside Bodies and Organisations are elected at the Annual Town Council Meeting held in May.
