JOSPEH J . M AGRATH O.B.E.
AWARD FOR PUBLIC VOLUNTARY SERVICE 2009

At the Brigg Town Council Meeting on Monday 25th January 2010, the Policy Committee recommendation that the Joseph J. Magrath O.B.E. Award for Public Voluntary Service to the Community of Brigg, should be given to Mrs. Maureen Glossop ‘Sandcrest’ 50, St Helen’s Road, Brigg, North Lincolnshire, was ratified.

The award is given to Mrs. Glossop in recognition of her tireless commitment to various voluntary works in the Town but, in determining the nomination, members particularly wished to recognise Mrs. Glossop’s sterling efforts in organising and promoting the annual Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in Brigg (whose resources are once again in much demand due to the conflict that our armed forces are currently engaged in); and also her unstinting commitment as Secretary of the Senior Citizens Pop In, which provides a social centre for the older members of the community.

The Town Mayor and Members of Brigg Town Council are fully aware of Mrs. Glossop’s diligence and attention to detail in whatever capacity she is engaged; and that she has put those talents to good use by raising the profile of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal in Brigg, through encouraging others to join her team, and also assisting neighbouring villages with the organisation of their collections.

Similarly, her energy and commitment in recruiting new volunteers to assist on rota in the Senior Citizens Pop In Café, has ensured that this valuable resource remains open for older members of the community to meet and socialise.

Brigg Town Council is very much aware of Mrs. Glossop’s commitment and dedication to both of these organisations and how much personal time she gives (without complaint) in order to sustain that commitment. They are also mindful of her support for the North Lincolnshire Music and Drama Festival, and the time she gives to pupils of Brigg Primary School by helping them to prepare their entries for this annual festival. In her spare time - she also collects used envelopes and stamps for the benefit of the R.A.O.B., and the blind!

Members are, therefore, delighted to be given this opportunity to recognise the work she does for the benefit of others and the Town, and it was unanimously agreed that she is a most worthy recipient of the Joseph J. Magrath O.B.E. Award for Public Voluntary Service 2009, which will be presented at the Town Mayor’s Civic Charity Banquet on Thursday 11th March 2010, at the Kar Restaurant, Brigg.

Clerk, Brigg Town Council
